What does “Cruelty-Free” Really Mean?
A cruelty-free company does not conduct, commission or allow animal testing for its finished products or ingredients.
But cruelty-free labels are not always as straightforward as they appear.
Look Beyond the Package
Phrases such as “not tested on animals” may not explain whether ingredients were tested, whether outside suppliers conducted testing or whether the company sells products where animal testing may be required.
Check the Entire Brand
One product may carry compassionate language while other products from the same company have different policies. Whenever possible, verify the company—not only the individual item.
Choose Independent Verification
Recognized certification programs provide greater assurance than an unverified claim printed on a package.
